Your questions, answered
What ages do you work with?
I generally work with children under 14. I may also consider a referral for a young person aged 15 or 16 when their developmental and emotional needs mean child-centred play therapy is an appropriate fit. I consider each referral individually.
How long does therapy usually last?
I generally recommend a starting block of at least 18 weekly sessions. This allows time to build safety and trust, get to know how best to support the child, and help them develop ways to recognise feelings and cope. Therapy is child-led, not a quick fix or a fixed timetable. We review the work together, and some children benefit from longer-term support.
Can a parent stay during a session?
A parent or carer can stay for part or all of an early session when that helps the child feel safe. We will take the transition at the child’s pace.
How do I make a referral?
Parents and carers can contact me directly. Professionals can also get in touch to discuss a referral, funding route and whether the service is a suitable fit. Please do not send detailed sensitive information before we have agreed a safe way to share it.
What does therapy cost?
Private sessions are £70 per clinical hour (45 minutes). The estimated total for the recommended initial block of 18 weekly sessions, including an intake meeting, two one-hour reviews and an end-of-block report, is £1,600. Funded or commissioned work is quoted separately. I’ll explain and agree fees before we begin; please contact me if private fees feel out of reach to discuss whether a funded route may be suitable.
